Aircraft tractors are vehicles whose role, as their name suggests, is to move aircraft around an airport. They are therefore very powerful vehicles, capable of towing machines weighing up to 200 tonnes. The vehicles used in airports are not always the same, and fall into several categories.
Aircraft tractors start with different engines. In fact, most aircraft towing equipment is powered by diesel engines. In recent years, however, a growing number of electrically-powered aircraft tow tractors have appeared on the market.
The various motors all have their advantages and disadvantages. While electric motors seem to offer better performance and are favored for environmental reasons, their cost and range must be taken into account.
