Aircraft tractors start with different engines. In fact, most aircraft towing equipment is powered by diesel engines. In recent years, however, a growing number of electrically-powered aircraft tow tractors have appeared on the market.

The various motors all have their advantages and disadvantages. While electric motors seem to offer better performance and are favored for environmental reasons, their cost and range must be taken into account.
